Please join us for a screening of the 2020 short film (30 minutes) Masel Tov Cocktail directed by Arkadij Khaet and Mickey Paatzsch followed by a conversation about the film facilitated by Jenny Kaminer, Professor of Russian and Sven-Erik Rose, Professor of German and Comparative Literature.

Russian-Jewish-German teenager Dima confronts an array of antisemitic and philosemitic attitudes on the part of Germans; superficial ideas that Jews and Arabs have about each other; pressures from his Jewish family to marry a Jewish woman. Dima's particular positionality as a Russian Jewish youth in Germany complicates ossified notions of Jews, Germans, and the relationship between them in myriad ways.

THIS TIME THE "BOOK" IS A FILM, BUT THE BAGELS ARE STILL BAGELS! COME FOR THE FOOD, STAY FOR THE SHORT FILM & DISCUSSION.
